You are looking at this profile and that means you have taken the first step. You want help. The next step is to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with. Let me tell you a little bit about myself so you can decide if I would be a good fit. I have been a social worker for 23 years. I have worked in hospitals, private practice, long-term care homes, and rehab facilities across Ontario. I work from a place of non- judgment. I like to say if they had a meeting for functional families, no one would be there including me.

Anxiety, depression, and couples counselling are my specialties. I love providing science-based strategies for mood and anxiety and use Gottman techniques and Attachment Theory when I help couples work on their relationship. I also use cognitive behavioural therapy and narrative modalities. I believe that we all have the strength to find our way out of what life throws at us and it is my job to coach you through that journey. Before becoming a social worker, I worked in broadcasting and then corporate communications. I have my Master of Social Work, a Bachelor’s degree in Social Developmental Studies as well as a diploma in Broadcast Journalism. I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

On a personal note, I have two adult children and two grandchildren and have been married twice. I have lost my parents and a brother. Likely a hang-over from growing up in the military, I moved a lot throughout my adult life, and so I can safely say I’m pretty adaptable. I don’t have any hobbies to speak of, although I did write a murder mystery in 2013 which was published. Don’t go looking for it though, because it is out of print, and the ones that are still out there are probably being used as coffee cup coasters. I have been halfway through the second book for years. I am at that age when a nap usually wins out over writing. I would, however, love to join a learn-to-run club so if you know of any, let me know.

I am not a particularly religious person but I do like this quote from Timothy II because it has gotten me through some tough times.

“For I was not given a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love, and sound mind.”

Were you raised in a purity culture that does not align with who you feel you are? Do you have religious trauma? Are you struggling in a relationship? Are you considering non-monogamy? Have you been struggling to make the transition from a monogamous relationship dynamic to a non-monogamous one?

Conscious non-monogamy is more popular than it’s ever been before in Canada, and learning how to operate in those new dynamics is incredibly hard. You probably have decades of socialization that’s told you that monogamy is the only relationship dynamic that is “okay” and that’s simply not true. A culture that has tried to fit everyone into a specific mold breeds anxiety and depression. You can combat these illnesses by radically accepting yourself and what you want for your life.

The shame and anxiety that can come along with early childhood religious programming can affect every aspect of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. This is not your fault. You can learn to release the shame of not being able to live up to the impossible standard of perfection. You are human, and that is enough.

My specialization lies in deeply attuning to you and your needs. I help you gain a fuller understanding and acceptance of your wants, needs, and feelings so that you can confidently navigate the intricate dynamics of relationships, both with yourself and with as many others as you choose!

Using a uniquely personal, gender-affirming, sex-positive, and non-judgemental approach, we will create a safe space so that you can develop a deep understanding of yourself so that you can live confidently and build the life that you have always dreamed of.

I have a passion for learning about you and your story. I use an eclectic method of therapy that centres around building awareness, movement, and self-love. I am certified in the Gottman Method of relationship counselling. Contact me for a free consultation today or if you’re ready to get started with an intake appointment click the book button or call our office at 226-208-2722.
